When you are going through a difficult time in life, it can be hard to find comfort in your everyday life. But did you know that creative activities can actually bring comfort to your life? They do indeed, so if you are struggling emotionally, it’s time to learn to find comfort in your creative activities.

Choose An Activity That Helps You Relax

First and foremost, you aren’t going to find any comfort in a creative activity that stresses you out. This is why you need to take the time to find an activity that can help you relax. And just because one activity helps your friends and family relax, doesn’t mean that it is going to be the activity you enjoy. Creativity looks different for everyone so don’t be afraid to stand out.

Focus On The Here And Now

While you are participating in the creative activity of your choice it can help you find comfort if you work on focusing on the here and now. This should happen naturally, because when your mind is trying to creatively solve something, it can be difficult for it to focus on anything else anyways. But if you do find that your mind is wandering during your creative sessions, bring it back to the task at hand to help keep you feeling in the present and relaxed.

Creativity Reduces Anxiety

According to Cleveland Clinic doctor Michael Roizen, art has been shown to have a profound effect on conditions like stress and anxiety. This is because, besides the focus aspect above, art can be fun—especially if you are engaging in an activity that you love. And when you are focused on something besides your negative thoughts and doing something that you enjoy, this reduces the negative thoughts, which, in turn, lowers the levels of stress in your body.

Schedule Yourself Something To Look Forward To

When you are facing a tough time in life, it can be important to have things to look forward to in your life, and creativity can fill this exact void. If you enjoy painting at home in your art studio, then schedule time to do so once a week—and even better, leave your phone in another room so that it can’t intrude on your personal time. And if you like a different activity like pottery, schedule yourself time in a pottery studio once a week, this will give you something to look forward to all week long.

You Spend Time With You

Perhaps the most comforting part of creativity is that it lets you spend time with you without other people interfering—this can be especially helpful when other people are a major source of your discomfort and stress in life. And since you are scheduling time with yourself each and every week—don’t be afraid to schedule it as alone time. Let others in your household know that you are not to be disturbed, or consider renting a room in a studio nearby so that you will get some peace and quiet time to process your thoughts. Getting to know yourself and realizing what you are capable of is a comforting feeling.

So next time you are looking for some comfort in your life, be sure that you turn to creative activities. This is because creative activities have power like none other when it comes to helping you relax, reduce stress, and be in the present.

And when you experience these things, you’ll find that you are left with a feeling of comfort when it comes to thinking about who you are as a person and anything that may be going on in your life that upsets you.
